Competition # 18219As the Director of Resource Management, you will be responsible for all aspects of forest resource management on Crown lands across the Province. You will accomplish this either directly through staff or indirectly through arrangements with forest industry. You will also be responsible for the implementation of Forest Sustainability Agreements on private lands and will provide direction for all provincial programming aimed at forest management on private lands.
…You will forge relationships with senior government and industry officials and will represent the Department on various internal and external committees. You will make recommendations regarding international, national, provincial and departmental policies that influence the delivery of forest resource management programs in Nova Scotia as well as actively participating in various integrated resource management processes.
…You have post-secondary education in a related field (such as natural sciences, including forestry) as well as several years of resource management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
It seems this is a replacement for Allan Smith, the writer of the ill-fated directive to L&F industry partners in September; no word on whether he is retiring or moving to another position.

As I have commented before, it’s hard to find who does what at NSDNR/L&F or anything about the backgrounds and qualifications of staff and Allan Smith does not show up on searches of the NSDNR/L&F website. However a separate Google search brought up a FOI document dated July 27, 2018 which has this organizational chart on it:

Don’t expect any info from L&F on
– who they hire
– anything about him or her
– what he or she does… or
– any annual reports… or even
– a complete directory…
